Here is the Viral video of Yunus talking about India's northeast state in china.

Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh's interim government, made comments during a four-day visit to China (March 26-29, 2025) that referenced India’s northeastern states.

What actually mohammad Yunus said?

Speaking at a high-level roundtable discussion on sustainable infrastructure and energy in Beijing, he positioned Bangladesh as a strategic economic hub for China. He stated, “The seven states of India, the eastern part of India, are called the Seven Sisters. They are a landlocked region of India. They have no way to reach out to the ocean. We [Bangladesh] are the only guardian of the ocean for this region.”

He further suggested that this geographic situation presented “a huge possibility” for China, proposing that Bangladesh could serve as “an extension of the Chinese economy” to “build things, produce things, market things, bring things to China, [and] bring it out to the rest of the world.”

Why did Yunus give such a statement?

These remarks were part of a broader pitch to attract Chinese investment, emphasizing Bangladesh’s proximity to India’s northeastern states, as well as Nepal and Bhutan, which he also described as landlocked.

Yunus aimed to leverage Bangladesh’s access to the Bay of Bengal to deepen economic ties with China, including projects like the modernization of Mongla Port and the expansion of the Chinese Economic and Industrial Zone in Chattogram.

Reaction of Indian people and politicians.

His comments sparked controversy in India, with political leaders and analysts interpreting them as provocative, potentially undermining India’s sovereignty over its northeastern region and inviting Chinese influence into a sensitive area near the Siliguri Corridor, a narrow strip connecting Northeast India to the rest of the country.
